John Wang Blog 7

In chapter 7, Anderson emphasizes the importance of education in the development of nationalism. To me this ties back to language as being key as it serves as a vehicle for lessons to be taught. Teaching history is a crucial part in the fostering of a national identity. Countries that are spread out that can manage to bond with a common history through education can form a strong sense of national identity. In the United States history is a required discipline that is drilled into you from kindergarten to college. I believe it is the same in other countries despite some of their significantly longer histories. You can also notice in smaller volatile countries, things are not following the smooth path of history, but instead history is being written amongst the turmoil. American Nationalism can be strongly tied to its history and belief in a future. The population is growing more and more diverse and some ways apart from each other. However, history remains the same, and there are plenty of things people can agree on for Americas future.
