Last Exhibit in "The Colored Museum"

We're probably gonna talk about this now....but was anyone else confused about the last exhibit? I really didn't get the meaning or importance of the fact that this woman laid an egg. I mean, I know she's did something special, after her mother told her she wasn't. But was was the entire scene supposed to represent?
