Blog 4 John Wang

In chapter 4 of imagined communities Anderson points out how the Creole pioneers establish their sense of nationalism in advance of all the other European countries. Anderson seemed to draw the conclusion of a common language, heritage (where they came from), and rebellion against oppression helped chisel out their sense of nationalism. What makes me an American? To me, it’s all I know. I was born here and it has been heavily imprinted on me that this is the best place to live in the world and I see that all around me every day. It’s not perfect, but that’s important, without struggles, there is no progress…no refining process to become a better society. No place else brings together the diversity we have here. America is home for me and unless the values I believe in change I’ll be proud to be American.
