Blog #2, Ashley Murphy

If you ask someone the question, "Where are you from?", every answer you receive will be different. No person has the same exact upbringing or is from the exact same place. Many people are born in the same city or country, but the experiences that bring them to where they are currently aren't the same. This being said, I think it is safe to say that although everyone is different in this way, we are all alike in that we feel a connection to our homes and our ancestry.

My sense of home is connected most strongly to the city and region I'm from: Roanoke in Southwestern Virginia. There is no place like it. I also feel strongly about my country, the United States, just as over 300 million other people do. Years before I was born, somehow someone in my family entered this country. I have no idea how. I may never know who this person was, what was their occupation, why they came. That doesn't really bother me. My parents tell me I have traces back to Ireland and Germany, but I'm not so sure they really know for certain. One day I might visit these countries and envision the journey from there to America.

As the only actor portraying the different roles in the Twilight: Los Angeles filmed play, there was a parallel to how different people from varying backgrounds can have strong, similar sentiments about an issue. To me, there is no 'us' and 'them', it is simply 'we'. Although we are from different places, everyone can relate to one another in that we care about where we come from and where we're going.
